Updated 11/16/09: Sandpoint Depot call to action: City Council to vote on Wednesday

Please plan to attend the City Council meeting on Wednesday, November 18th at 5:30 P.M. If you intend to speak on the topic of the Depot, the only time to do so is at the very beginning of the meeting and you must be on time to take advantage of this opportunity. If you are unable to attend, I would suggest sending your comments to Council members as soon as you can in order for them to be considered in the their decision. Council email address and phone numbers are listed below.

Original post:

This is a call to action. Now is your chance to make a difference regarding preservation of the historic Sandpoint Depot. On Wednesday of next week, November 18, 2009 at 5:30 P.M., the Sandpoint City Council will decide whether or not to pursue acquisition of the Depot from BNSF Railway. Acquiring the Depot is the key to keeping Amtrak in downtown Sandpoint. Amtrak partners with municipalities around the country to help them with station revitalization and the Sandpoint Depot is a perfect opportunity for this partnership. Amtrak received substantial money from ITD during the byway negotiations and has said that these funds could be used for restoration of the Depot.

Things you can do to help:

  • Attend the Council meeting on Wednesday of next week and speak personally. (You must be on time to take advantage of this.)
  • Contact the Mayor and City Council to let them know why the Depot is important to you.
  • Send your statement to me and I will present it at the Council meeting.
  • Spread the word.
