National Train Day Event in Sandpoint Idaho on May 7, 2010

National Train Day 2010

The Sandpoint Historic Preservation Commission has put together a wonderful day filled with three different speakers and all presentations are free and open to the public. The National Train Day event will be held at Sandpoint Community Hall on May 7, 2010. The day will kick off at 10:00 A.M. with a presentation by Dan Everhart from the Idaho Transportation Department on ITD’s Work on Depots in Idaho. Next up is Paul Rechintzer at 1:00 P.M. with a presentation on The History of Trains in Sandpoint.

Then at 6:00 P.M. Arthur Hart will wrap the day up with a great slide presentation that surveys the major and minor railroads that once covered Idaho with a network of steel rails. Steam locomotives pulled all Idaho trains until most of the railroads themselves became obsolete. Throughout the day, there will also be a historic photo display courtesy of the Bonner County Historical Society.

Come celebrate trains in Sandpoint Idaho on May 7, 2010. For more information contact Melissa Bethel at 208-263-3370.
