Sandpoint Train Depot Letters of Support: Number Ten

Due to the overwhelming support from the community regarding the historic Sandpoint Depot, I have decided to post several letters that were written in support of our efforts to preserve the station and the Amtrak stop in the core of Downtown Sandpoint. These letters were sent before the recent City Council vote and will be posted individually without signature. If you discover your letter has been posted here and would like your signature included, just let me know.

Letter Number Ten:

We have been residents in the Sandpoint area for the past 10 years.

Having left our children and grandchildren back in the midwest to retire in this beautiful area and enjoy what it has to offer. We were delighted to use the Empire Builder to return yearly, renting a car in Wisconsin and Illinois to visit our far-flung family and then returning from Chicago.

The convenience of getting on the train 15 minutes from home is wonderful – sometimes there are delays, but for us it’s acceptable. To that end, we have noted towns such as Whitefish, Montana, that are basically very similar to Sandpoint have taken advantage of the Amtrak stop for getting skiers to the ski resort located there. The station is an attractive asset to the community.

Our station could be an asset to our community if it can be restored and perhaps even our ski area could see the benefit of meeting its clients at the station and transferring them to the resort. Please help the community save the station.
