Sandpoint Train Depot Letters of Support: Number One

Due to the overwhelming support from the community regarding the historic Sandpoint Depot, I have decided to post several letters that were written in support of our efforts to preserve the station and the Amtrak stop in the core of Downtown Sandpoint. These letters were sent before the recent City Council vote and will be posted individually without signature. If you discover your letter has been posted here and would like your signature included, just let me know.

Letter Number One:

I am a Sandpoint homeowner, taxpayer, and part time resident. I use Amtrak to get to and from Sandpoint at least 10 times per year and I walk between the depot and my Sandpoint house year round. I recognize the majority today uses cars, and I own several, but to get to and from Sandpoint, I use the train. From my view from a career spent in the oil industry, it is clear that if the City of Sandpoint enables Amtrak to abandon it, the city will find itself more and more isolated over the next 5 to 10 years as changes in energy costs encourage more travelers to use mass transit. I support effort to restore the Sandpoint depot.
